Detective Sergeant Ana Ambros, who is based in the South Area Command Unit which covers Bromley, Sutton and Croydon, is facing a misconduct hearing following the allegations.
It is alleged that on September 8, 2021, while at Gatwick Airport DS Ambros and another person tried to steal two pairs of sunglasses.
It is also alleged that she allowed a false explanation to be given as to how he sunglasses came to be in possession of the person she was in company with and did not challenge or correct this.
A misconduct hearing will take place between July 12 and July 14 to decide whether DS Ambros has a future in the force.
