London Fire Brigade was called to London Road in Croydon on Saturday night (August 5) at around 11.30pm.

Around 35 firefighters were sent to tackle the flames and a laundry room on the fifth floor of the building was destroyed.

No injuries were reported and the fire was under control by around 1am on Sunday (August 8).

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said: “If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it.

“If you think there’s a problem always unplug it and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.

“Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not down to anything you have done – so always make sure you register your appliances as you’ll be informed if any issues are identified with the product you’ve bought.”

They added: “Firefighters are reminding people of their white goods safety advice after a flat fire on London Road in Croydon on Saturday night.

“A laundry room on the fifth floor of the building was destroyed by fire.

“There were no reports of any injuries.

“The fire is believed to have been accidental and involved a tumble dryer.

“The Brigade was called at 2341 and the fire was under control by 0058.

“Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters from Croydon, Norbury and Woodside fire stations attended the scene.”
