Charlton Athletic have made Cambridge United centre-back Lloyd Jones their second signing of the summer transfer window.

Our website exclusively revealed that the Addicks were keen on a deal for the defender, who is out of contract at midnight tonight.

And the South Londoners have moved to secure Jones on a two-year contract.

The former Liverpool academy player had his medical with the Addicks yesterday and wrapped up the switch today.

Jones swept the board for all the major end-of-season awards at Cambridge in the 2022-23 season.

It means that Charlton have a number of defensive options with Michael Hector and Terell Thomas re-signing.

The Addicks are prepared to let Sam Lavelle move on and there is interest in the former Morecambe man.

Charlton boss Dean Holden told the club’s website: “Lloyd signs for us on the back of an excellent season at Cambridge United. He is a very good centre-half who plays with real authority, is confident on the ball and a threat from set-pieces. He’s a good leader with experience of captaining sides.

“Our setpiece record, both defensively and in front of goal, was a clear area where we wanted to improve on last season and Lloyd will be important for us in both boxes.
