Reports on social media said that a masked man was threatening the public with a machete on July 27.
A report was made to police at 5.47pm but when officers searched the area, nothing was found.
Officers say that there have been no reported injuries.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At 17:47hrs on Thursday 27 July, officers were called to a report of a man with a knife in Poulters Park, Sutton.
“Officers attended the scene, and searched the area. There was nothing found.
“There have been no reported injuries.”
